Taipingsi New Zone
Built in July 1938, the Taipingsi Airport was under the jurisdiction of Huaxing Street Neighborhood Office of Wuhou District and used as the base for an airforce squadron during the Sino-Japanese War. In November 2008, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and representatives from the military reached an agreement that Taipingsi Airport will be vacated gradually from its downtown location due to urban development necessity.
Wuhou District will adopt the standards of a modern and intelligent city in planning the development of the Taipingsi New Zone It will feature a planned construction area of 5.53 km2, primarily comprised of residential buildings, industrial properties and greenbelts. After Taipingsi Airport is relocated, the municipal and district governments will rehabilitate the original site and surrounding areas to create, with the Taipingsi Airport site at the center, an ecological and livable urban district that utilizes spatial resources and integrates high-end business and commerce.
